Claudy Conn's books continue to amaze me. I am wow'd with every book I read of hers.I was taken back in time with this book. Claudy writes details that bring you to that time and place.
I found this book to be well written. I couldn't put this book down. I cant believe it was for free.
The passion the main characters shared was very sensual. The secondary characters were very lovable and unforgettable.
Cherry, is a high spirited, witty and beautiful woman of this time. Not wanting to be married to someone she doesn't know, someone she doesn't love even though her step mother arranged her to be married. She decides to run away to prevent the marriage, she didn't realize her life would be changing that very same night..
Sky, a handsome, honorable man decides to set up and agree to marry a woman he has never met. He wants a wife to help take care of his family. He has already given up on finding love let alone having a marriage full of love. He decides to go out with his friends to celebrate his last day as a free man. He doesn't know he will meet his destiny that same night.
From that moment on this book was filled with laughs, smiles and a lot of sighing in contentment.
I enjoyed this book. It was a breath of fresh air for me.

The story developed at a nice pace though it was a great easy read. The heroine is smart, sassy, and independent, a bit unusual for a historical romance, which is why I LOVED it! The chemistry and tension, between Cherry, our heroine and Skylar (Sky), our hero is perfect. Cherry is struggling with many things, including society's views on women and what is proper and fair, her stepmother marrying her off to a complete stranger, her need to find purpose in her life and now fighting not only her physical desire but her heart's desire for Lord Skylar, her employer. She has grown to love the kids she takes care of and does not which to hurt them with her deceit. How long before she is found out and hearts will be broken.
Sky must marry in order to provide his younger siblings with a mom. He's agreed to marry a woman he has never met. However, after meeting Cherry under interesting circumstances on night, and then finding out she is his siblings' new governess, he is having second thoughts on his initial proposal to the stranger but his responsibility to his siblings is more important than his own wants and desires.
Claudy did a fantastic job of creating a story and characters you end of caring about and wanting to know more about them.
This appears to be a rewrite of a Fawcett regency romance the author published years ago under her pen name of Claudette Williams. I have it and several other of her earlier works, and I very much enjoyed her writing. I have mixed feelings about this incarnation, however.
I was expecting an eBook version of the traditional regency, so was fairly shocked by this one. That is my problem and not the author's fault. You know what they say about assumptions, after all. However, I am a bit obsessive about my regencies; I want them to be fairly faithful to the period. This book is not a traditional regency, and I'm not sure if it was meant to be.
Other reviewers have differing views as to whether or not this is a good book. If I judge it by my own expectations of a traditional regency, it is not a good book. If I view it objectively, it is a good book. The writing mechanics are excellent and it is well written. Characterization is good, with some characters being more likeable than others. Dialogue is very good, with much of it faithful to the period. The plot is entertaining and engaging, and the sex scenes are fairly well done.
On my personal 'regency meter', the language was too modern at times, as were the actions. Although they were well done if for a different romance category, the sex scenes did not feel 'right' for a regency romance. Don't get me wrong, however, this was a story with sex scenes and not a sex book held together with a thin story. All of these factors are my personal likes and dislikes for regency romances. Other readers will have their own criteria for this category.
I have settled for a neutral three stars rating. I don't recommend this book to regency purists, because I think it will not be what they want. I also don't recommend it to anyone who hates hot sex scenes, because there are some. I recommend it to anyone who likes non-traditional historical romances with some hot sex scenes. The book is definitely not boring, it is entertaining and it is engaging for the right audience.
